E-CERTIFICATE

Your gem’s e-certificate can be accessed via the IJGC website, by entering the certificate number or scanning the QR-code, both of which can be found on the corresponding IJGC-SecurCase. By providing a digital version of the certificate, IJGC is offering a no-nonsense and ecological product with no unnecessary paperwork and without compromising on security.
Furthermore, the e-certificate makes it much easier for you to list your certified gems online.

DIGITAL PACKAGE

With IJGC’s optional €12.50 digital package, you receive six standardised photos and written information on the identification of your gem in digital format. This extra service helps you to complete your own database, to promote your goods online and to trade gemstones through multiple online platforms.
Please note that the digital package will only qualify for the special price of €12.50 if it is pre-ordered when you submit your batch for certification. If you order a digital package at a later point during the certification process or after completion, the digital package will cost the standard price of €25.

CERTIFICATE CONTENT

By focusing on the essential elements of gemstone certification without any unnecessary or debatable extras, IJGC can offer good quality certificates at extremely affordable fixed prices.

This principle is comparable to the approach used by low-cost airlines, where customers pay a fixed price for a cheap basic flight. The limited comfort of this basic offer is generally accepted because the end-goal and reliability are guaranteed, namely safe transport from A to B. However, by paying an additional fee, customers can supplement the basic offer as they wish (to allow for extra luggage, for example).

Other certification companies conduct an extremely detailed examination as standard. But this is only beneficial in very few cases, for example when dealing with extremely valuable stones.

IJGC can conduct your fixed-price certification for just €25 or €35, depending on which section in the IJGC Gem Acceptance Table the gemstone to be examined falls into.
For just €12.50Info image extra, you can add a digital-package upon the submission of your batch of gemstones. This includes pictures of and information on your gem in digital format for easy online use. Thus saving you a lot of time for very little money.

The information you can expect to see on your certificate and the exact content of the digital package is shown below.

This is a discount price, valid when you order the digital package upon submission. For more information, scroll upwards to “Digital package”.

YOUR PARTNERSHIP WITH IJGC

IJGC’s ability to certify gems at a low price, depends on more than simply focusing the gemmological examination on the essentials. The customer also has an important role to play if they wish to obtain their certificate costs for the fixed price of €25 or €35 per gem and if they want to ensure they are paying for certification rather than just administration costs. After all, IJGC’s contracts are always governed by a duty of best efforts rather than a duty of result. This means that IJGC is not obliged to supply a certificate if the gemmological research is inconclusive or cannot be carried out thoroughly enough at such competitive prices. In fact, as professional gemmologists, our ethical values dictate that we have a moral obligation to our customers not to provide any information that does not have a strong scientific foundation. Adhering to the following cooperation guidelines will provide a good basis for establishing a successful partnership between IJGC and its customers:

WORK IS CARRIED OUT IN LARGE BATCHES

IJGC INPUT

By working with a minimum intake of 20 gemstones per submission, the entire certification process can be carried out more efficiently due to less administration and fewer interruptions to the workflow. This helps IJGC to keep certification costs down to €25 and/or €35.

CUSTOMER INPUT

IJGC can only offer you low, fixed certification prices of €25 and/or €35 if you submit at least 20 gemstones at a time. Smaller batches therefore incur an additional administration fee of €50 per batch.

GEMSTONES REQUIRING A MORE EXTENSIVE CERTIFICATION PROCESS ARE PRECLUDED

IJGC INPUT

IJGC has developed and compiled its own Gem Acceptance Table based on parameters that affect the extent of the examination required for gemstone identification. Some identification examinations cannot be conducted for a cost of €25 or €35.

The Gem Acceptance Table indicates which stones IJGC expects to require an extensive examination and which are therefore not suitable for our fixed-price certification service. It also indicates which stones require a less extensive examination that IJGC can conduct for €25 or €35.Info

* IJGC’s Gem Acceptance Table has been compiled based on the expected work time required for a good quality gemmological examination of each gemstone. This is based on the typical characteristics of the group or “variety” of gemstones to which your gemstone belongs. Because every gemstone is unique however, the actual work time required for an individual gemstone may differ from the average work time for that gemstone variety. That is why, even if the Gem Acceptance Table indicates it should fall within the €25 category, it could fall within the €35 price category or the examination of your gemstone may be terminated prematurely and the gemstone will be returned without certification. IJGC will always communicate the reasons for refusal or for a change in price category as an appendix to the invoice.

CUSTOMER INPUT

IJGC has provided the Gem Acceptance Table to help you estimate your certification costs and avoid paying administration costs for the registration and return of gems that are unsuitable for our fixed price certification service. Of course this can only work if you consult the Gem Acceptance Table when compiling your batch prior to submission.

Any gemstones submitted that are unsuitable for our fixed-price certification service, will be rejected and returned without certification, providing the reason for refusal.
In these cases IJGC will use the initial minimum certification price of €25 paid upon submission to cover the administration fee for registering the stone in IJGC’s processing system and for the initial screening.Info

As soon as a batch of gemstones is submitted to IJGC for assessment and potential fixed-price certification, a non-refundable charge of €25 per stone must be paid by credit card. This covers either basic certification or an administration fee for any rejected gemstones. An additional €10 deposit will also be held on your credit card. Once pricing has been finalised, this additional €10 will be charged for any stone requiring the €35 certification service and the remainder of the deposit will be refunded. This works in much the same way as a deposit placed on your credit card when you check in to a hotel, which covers any additional expenses such as drinks or meals in the restaurant. If you opt for the additional digital package for €12.50 per gemstone, this amount will also be held on your credit card.

The Gem Acceptance Table is constantly subject to changes for conformity with gemmological research, with experience in the IJGC-lab, with frequent occurrence of the gems, with the discovery of new gems and new synthetics and treatments, and with the market.

* Listed stones marked with this Asterix are not suitable for IJGC’s fixed-price certification service and will be rejected by our gemmologists during the screening process. In such cases, a founded reason for refusal is provided, but no certificate will be supplied. The fixed price for basic certification of €25 per gemstone is a non-refundable charge which will cover the administration fee per rejected stone.

IJGC’S APPLICATION OF THE GEM ACCEPTANCE TABLE

After internal screening

An initial screening process conducted in the laboratory will reveal whether, according to IJGC’s Gem Acceptance Table, the stone concerned can be accepted for budget certification or not.

If, according to the Gem Acceptance Table, that is not the case, IJGC will stop the examination and return the stone without a certificate. For these stones, IJGC will use the pre-paid minimum certification price of €25 to cover the administration costs. Afterall, as with all items that are submitted as part of a batch these stones must still be weighed and recorded in the IJGC system and must undergo the initial screening phase.

Using the Gem Acceptance Table can help you to avoid having to pay these administration costs by preventing IJGC from having to refuse the stones you submit for certification.

After the gemmological examination

In the Gem Acceptance Table, IJGC indicates which price category it expects each gemstone to fall within, according to the amount of time they expect will be required to complete the certification process to a good standard. Following the examination, IJGC will calculate whether the time required to complete the examination should be charged at €25 or €35. Thus IJGC’s Gem Acceptance Table serves as a framework that you can use to estimate your costs.Info

IJGC’s Gem Acceptance Table has been compiled based on the expected work time required for a good quality gemmological examination of each gemstone.
